Over the next couple of weeks there is a good possibility that I will be at the barn a lot! :w00t: What I want to know is, is the quality of the images from my point-and-shoot camera good enough for me to offer them as stock photos? Are they manipulation-quality, or will people only be able to use them for references? Please be honest with me, especially those of you that do manips. I would LOVE to start offering stock photos, but I don't want to waste the time/energy if they're not worth it with the camera I have, you know?

I took this picture about a month ago at the barn. It was taken with the same camera I will be using to take the stock photos. I admit, the ISO is probably a little high for being outdoors, but I'm so used to shooting indoors that it kind of slipped my mind when I was walking around in the pasture! ^^; I will be much more conscientious of my settings if I take stock photos, and the quality might be a smidge better because of it.

So, what's your honest opinion?

I think they're worth using! Getting a good crisp largeish resolution images of horses of various breeds, angles and poses is almost always useful to someone :P In general, horse images that are clear, good sized, no tack or obstructions such as fences or grass in front of the hooves are good for photomanipulation. The light on this might make it less optimal (just because the shadows are so strong and of such a distinct color it might be difficult to match to a background) but the same photo taken at a different time of day would be perfect. And you never know what people are looking for, this would make a really good sunset manip :)

They're definitely worth it with the camera you have. I used mainly a Canon SX120 for most of my stock (:devWestern-Stock:) and they get used for manipulations all the time.

I'm an artist not a photomanipulator, and it's most DEFINITELY good enough quality for an art reference. I might end up using it as some point :) (not sure, but I might).

If you do start uploading stock, let me know and I'll give you a watch :D.

Thanks! :aww: I'm looking forward to the day when I can get back to the barn and take some more! :w00t: It's winter now and there's quite a bit of snow on the ground, so it should make some pretty shots I think.

Thanks again! :thanks:

Oh really? Well.. it looks grainy to me. I am incredibly self-critical, though. I am hoping to be at the barn as soon as it warms up though, so I will be taking more no matter what! ;P Thanks for your comment and time, hon!

Looks like a great reference photo to me. Can't comment on manipulating though- I've never done it. But I could definitely use this as a ref. :3
